SPNHC 2013 Registration Now Open

Registration for the 2013 meeting of the Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections is now open. This meeting is being held June 17-22 on the campus of the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, South Dakota, home of the Museum of Geology.

The theme this year is "Repositories and Partnerships in Managing Natural History Collections in the 21st Century." The meeting will focus on the issues surrounding ownership, stewardship, and stakeholders in collections care throughout the meeting.

South Dakota School of Mines and Technology is the region’s center of excellence in science and engineering. SDSMT is the home of the Museum of Geology, founded in 1885.

The Museum recently opened the Paleontology Research Laboratory, a LEED Gold structure dedicated to collections care and conservation for natural history collections, including significant repository collections from the National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation, U. S. Forest Service, U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pine Ridge Reservation, Rosebud Reservation, and other agencies.

The host hotel is the Best Western Ramkota, with special room rates for conference attendees. 

The 28th annual meeting of the Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections unites representatives from natural history organizations and societies around the world. The Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections [SPNHC] is an international society whose mission is to improve the preservation, conservation and management of natural history collections to ensure their continuing value to society.
